While working on a long-term project documenting five-time Paralympic silver medalist Lex Gillette, I had the opportunity to photograph the 2024 U.S. Paralympic Track and Field Trials in Miami, Florida. Over three sweltering days in 93-degree heat, the nation’s top para-athletes competed for a coveted spot on Team USA. As one of only a few independent photojournalists present, I was granted intimate press access, allowing me to capture powerful sport photography as well as behind-the-scenes moments of this high-stakes event.
